Wufongci (Five-Peak Flag) Waterfall is a renowned scenic spot in Jiaoxi Township. The waterfall got its name because of the five peaks that line the background of the waterfall which look like a flag from afar. Paoma Historic Trail is situated along the borders of Wulai Township of Taipei County, Toucheng Township and Jiaoxi Township of Yilan County. It is one of the branch lines of Yilan Historic Trail. Following the Houtong River valley straight down, you can reach Shihpai Station on Beiyi Highway. Further down the slope is Wufengqi Scenic Area. In an attempt to provide its visitors with a soothing spa in a natural setting, the Yilan County Government is planning to establish the Tang-wei-gou Park, through four phases of construction. Fo Guang University was the first university in Yilan. The campus is located on the hillside of Linmei Village, Jiaoxi Township at an altitude of about 430 meters above sea level. Shenmu Mountain climbing trail (elevation 1028m), is the best spot for viewing the panorama of Lanyang Field and Turtle Island. The mountain happens to be the border dividing Yilan and Taipei. King Car Orchid Garden was founded in 1988 and is the largest orchid plantation in northern Taiwan. It is home to 8540 ping greenhouses and 1,300,000 moth orchids. Jiaoxi Sietian Temple is the first and most important Guandi Temple in Taiwan. The temple worships Silk Guangong. This temple was built in 1804 by the Chingting Government. Lanyang Museum is housed in a building that exists in harmony with the earth. The main structure of the building is situated at the northwest side of the ruins in Wushigang Harbor; its aim is to conserve the wetland’s natural resources. Wai’ao Beach, also known as Gangao Beach, is located to the north, outside of the formerly bustling Wushi Harbor. On the large, clean beach, one can play among the constant waves and catch a glimpse of Guishan Island in the distance. It’s a great spot for surfers and the whole family. Guishan lsland (Turtle Island) is so named for its similarity to a floating turtle. The Island is located 10 kilometers east of the Touchen Township coast. It is the largest and the only inhabited island of Yilan County. As the only active volcano in Taiwan, the island was included in the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area in 1999.
